The Ultimate South Florida Tour

Mangrove Cuckoo

The number of participants for each tour is limited to 6.  This allows for a more personalized tour and an even more enjoyable trip for everyone.

This tour is the perfect extension for the people participating in our Dry Tortugas Tour.  Each tour includes accommodations (7 nights), 7 full days of birding with Larry Manfredi, transportation, drinks and snacks.

This tour starts in Florida City and ends in Florida City. 

First Night  - You will spend the night at a quality hotel in Homestead/Florida City.

 Day 1 - We will meet in the lobby of the hotel at 6:30 a.m.    We will spend the day near the Everglades.  The birds that we can expect to see today include Purple Gallinule, Wood Stork, White-Crowned Pigeon, Anhinga, Florida Red-Shouldered Hawk, Bald Eagle, Shiny Cowbird and with luck, Short-Tailed Hawk. We'll also see numerous wading birds such as Roseate Spoonbill, Great White Heron, and Least Bittern. 

Day 2- We will meet in the lobby of the hotel at 6:30 a.m.  Our day will be spent in the Miami area looking for the specialties such as Spot-Breasted Oriole, Red-Whiskered Bulbul, White-Winged Parakeet, Yellow-Chevroned Parakeet, Monk Parakeet, Eurasian Collared Dove, Hill Myna, Common Myna, Snail Kite, Swallow-Tailed Kite, Cave Swallow, Burrowing Owl, Limpkin and Purple Swamphen, Egyptian Goose, we will then travel north for our night in Vero Beach.

Day 3  Florida Scrub Jay, Short-tailed Hawk, Whopping Crane, Red-cockaded Woodpecker, Brown-headed Nuthatch, Snail Kite, Crested Caracara, Wild Turkey, Sandhill Crane, Burrowing Owl, Bachman’s Sparrow.  These will be the main target birds for this day.  We will spend the day in the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area in search of these birds.  We will spend the night near Vero Beach.

Day 4 - Today we will bird areas of central Florida.  We will focus on Black-bellied Whistling Duck and Fulvous Whistling Duck, Limpkin and perhaps Snail Kite.  From here, we will work our way back to the Florida City area.

Day 5- We will meet in the lobby of the hotel at 6:30 a.m.  The birds that we can expect to see in the Florida Keys are Mangrove Cuckoo, Black-Whiskered Vireo, Gray Kingbird, Magnificent Frigatebird, White-Crowned Pigeon, Shiny Cowbird and Antillean Nighthawk. We'll also try for Cuban Yellow Warbler (also called Golden Warbler) and any Caribbean strays.  We will spend the night in the lower Florida Keys.

Day 6- We will spend another wonderful day in the Fabulous Florida Keys looking for birds that we may have missed as well as searching for rarities.  We will spend the night in Key West.

Day 7-  We will travel out to Dry Tortugas National park for a day trip.  We should see many species of pelagic birds such as:  Brown Booby, Masked Booby, Sooty Tern, Bridled Tern, Brown Noddy, Magnificent Frigatebird.  There will also be migrants passing through the Dry Tortugas at the end of migration.  This day trip is a nice trip for those that are prone to seasickness, you will have a far less chance of getting sick on this fast day boat.

  Rates: $2,100.00 per person double occupancy

Includes hotel accommodation, continental breakfasts, transportation in the field, professional bird guiding services, and refreshments.

 Don't forget, these trips will take place during the Spring migration.  In addition to the birds mentioned above, we can expect to see migrants and hope for Caribbean strays!

It is possible that the itinerary will change from above; all of the same birds will be target birds if there is a change.
